The Moto X has been unleashed… to a resounding “meh.”

Today Google / Motorola unveiled their new baby, the Moto X. The phone has been assembled (That’s a key word here, no one is claiming the parts are manufactured here) in the USA, and sports customizable looks, if you are on AT&T anyway. The phone has a 4.7″ 720p screen which should look great but just can’t outclass the newest flagships from HTC and Samsung.

The X sports a dual core, 1.7Ghz processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB storage and Android 4.2.2.

The price is said to be $199 on contract. If this phone were to come out last year I would have been drooling just to touch one, but with superphones like the Droid DNA being offered at $50 on contract or even the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One for $99 I can’t see a compelling reason to jump on this one.

I really wanted Motorola to pull this off. Competition is an excellent thing in the smartphone world, and it makes things better for us as consumers but if they are going to topple Samsung off of the Android high horse, Motorola is really going to have to up their game.

Good luck, Moto, you’ll need it…
